Meet Your Director

Amanda Nelson is a passionate choir director and vocal instructor with over 20 years of singing experience and 15 years of teaching. A graduate of BYU–Idaho with a degree in Music Education and an emphasis in vocal studies, Amanda studied under renowned soprano Kristine Ciesinski and received conducting training from Dr. Eda Ashby, Dr. Kevin Brower, and Dr. Rebecca Lord. While at BYU–Idaho, she performed with several elite ensembles including the touring Collegiate Singers, and shared the stage with groups such as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Amanda completed her student teaching at Blackfoot High School under Chris Dunbar and is proud to be a Blackfoot native, now raising her family in the community with her husband and three children.

In recent years, she has directed large-scale children’s ensembles with Snake River Theatre Company and led local adult choirs, earning a reputation for her ability to inspire singers of all ages.

As a classically trained vocalist with deep expertise in vocal pedagogy, Amanda has an understanding of the voice that allows her to draw out healthy, expressive singing even from students who are just beginning to understand their instrument. Her mastery of vocal technique empowers her to diagnose and guide with precision, making lasting improvements accessible to every singer she teaches.

What sets Amanda apart is her engaging and intentional teaching style. Known for her high-energy pacing and joyful classroom atmosphere, she keeps her singers thinking and moving, often through games, visuals, and hands-on learning. Her approach is especially effective with children, blending fun and creativity with clear expectations.

Amanda has a keen ear and offers precise, actionable feedback that helps singers grow step by step. Her critiques are always honest, warm, and constructive. Students describe feeling supported, seen, and celebrated under her direction.

She sets the bar high—and truly believes her students can reach it. Her relentless dedication consistently brings out the best in every choir and individual she leads.

Whether directing large ensembles or teaching one-on-one, Amanda’s mix of professional expertise, child-centered creativity, and unshakable positivity creates a space where singers thrive—and where music becomes a lifelong joy.
